This deer hunting story took place in a town called Morrill, which is in the central Maine area.
The whitetail bucks name was (Hatrack) and he was a very large whitetail. There is a really nice true deer hunting story about old Hatrack and how he met his demise.

Deer hunting season in Maine 2010 may go down in Maines history as the worst deer hunting season ever. The deer hunting season harvest totals have yet to be released by the Department Of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife.
In all my years spent in the Maine woods, this by far is the worst ever, as far as seeing deer period. Many deer hunters it seems had likewise experiences.
Our deer hunting season seems to be getting less and less enjoyable each year. I can’t speak for other deer hunters, but deer season for me was always about putting meat in the freezer.
The experiences that it took to accomplish this task was also enjoyable, but with so few deer nowadays, it may become a thing of the past for more and more hunters.
Turkeys are very abundant, but who wants to look at turkeys when they are out deer hunting. I suspect that deer hunting license sales will continue to dwindle, as the years go by, if this trend keeps up.
Add to all of this, we have have another bad winter to top it all off. The deer had a fairly mild winter up until a few weeks ago, when mother nature decided to dump on us.
The up and down weather temps have crusted the deep snow, thereby making it easier for a big coyote kill winter again this year. There might not be any deer around my neck of the woods come this spring.
I had 1 doe and 2 fawns around home, even after the deer season was over, and it will be nice to see if they return or if any deer return at all.
How about your deer hunting season in 2010? Do you think the 2010 Maine Deer Season Will Go Down In History In A Good Way?
Please leave your comments below if you have anything to add, we would love to hear it!

The maine deer hunting season of 2010 may go down in the history books as the worst in many, many years. This deer season I have only seen 4 doe deer in the penobscot county area, during legal shooting hours, and not a single buck.
Other deer hunters that I have talked to have had similar results. I know of only a handful of bucks taken. I saw more coyote and fox tracks then I did deer.
There were no signs of the rut until the last week of November. I can’t wait to see the actual deer harvest totals of the 2010 Maine deer season.
It should be very interesting. The Department Of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife saw fit to not give out any doe permits for the entire northern district, I’m thinking they may need to take real drastic measures come next deer season, especially if we have a harsh winter.
I don’t believe our deer herds can withstand another deep snow winter.
